Indianapolis Colts vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Prediction and Preview

Neither the Indianapolis Colts nor the Pittsburgh Steelers are strangers to close games. Indianapolis fans have been living off Tums and Zantac all season long, as the first-place Colts (5-2) have been living on the edge. Every Colts game this season has been decided by seven points or less for a point differential of only 4.7. The Colts have embodied their head coach's style of stoic aggressiveness, and it’s lead the boys in blue to the top of the AFC South.

Despite losing Ben Roethlisberger for the season in Week 2 — along with their first three games — the Steelers (3-4) have shown their resiliency by winning three of their last four, including a comeback win on "Monday Night Football" against Miami. Sure, none of their wins have come against contending teams (Bengals, Chargers, Dolphins), but even in their losses against superior teams (Ravens, 49ers), the Steelers have proven to be a tough out. Despite the sub-.500 mark, Pittsburgh is still in second place in the AFC North and in the thick of the AFC playoff picture.

Pittsburgh owns a 23-6 all-time mark against the Colts, including wins in their last five matchups.

Final Analysis

Records aside, the one-point spread and each team's point differential explains just how evenly matched these two teams really are. The Colts' 2-1 road record, their ability to squeak out ugly, close wins, and their advantage at the quarterback position give them a slight edge, although not having No. 1 wide receiver T.Y. Hilton because of a calf injury will make things tougher. The X-factor is 46-year–old Adam Vinatieri's wildly inconsistent season (11-for-15 on field goals, 13-for-17 on PATs). He missed another field goal and an extra point last week after going through a case of the yips earlier in the year. This game very well could come down to the unsure foot of the greatest kicker of all-time.

Prediction: Colts 21, Steelers 18

Bears vs Eagles: Betting Line, Odds Prediction & Pick

he Chicago Bears (3-4) head to Philadelphia to face the Eagles (4-4) Sunday afternoon. Both teams have been disappointing so far this season after making the playoffs last year, where the two teams met–and where the Eagles ended the Bears’ season in the Wild Card round this past January.

Chicago has lost three in a row, while Philadelphia managed to get a win against a tough Buffalo team last week to end its losing skid. So which of these troubled teams has the edge in this one? Here’s a breakdown of the game, with betting odds and predictions:

Bears
The Bears are a team in flux right now. They have been one of the worst offensive teams in football this year, but they’re coming off their best offensive performance of the year last week–in a game they lost to the Chargers. Rookie David Montgomery rushed for 135 yards and a score, and Matt Nagy relied heavily on the I-Formation offense to move the ball on the ground. It worked. But will Nagy be able to out-scheme his good friend on the other side of the field in Doug Pederson?

The Eagles are giving up 90.5 rushing yards a game, but they’re slipping a bit on defense of late. Philly has given up an average of 136.3 yards on the ground over the past three games, and Montgomery is just now heating up. If Nagy can get the run game going again, his team can keep this one close.

Much with the Bears will rely on the arm of their struggling quarterback, Mitchell Trubisky. Trubisky has struggled hitting open receivers and deciphering defenses all season–and this was supposed to be the year he broke out. While the team showed signs of an offensive awakening last week, Trubisky had two costly fourth quarter turnovers that took his team out of the game. He will have to play better this week if the Bears want to keep their season from going entirely off the rails.

Eagles
The Eagles have been dealing with their fair share of drama this season. Whether it has been anonymous Eagles players talking trash about their team, or recently cut players like Orlando Scandrick trashing Pederson, Malcolm Jenkins and the entire organization, this is not the same Philly team that won the Super Bowl just a few seasons ago.

Quarterback Carson Wentz is playing well amongst all the drama swirling around him, and former Bears running back Jordan Howard will be entering this game with something to prove. While the Bears still have a top 10 defense, Howard will be running hard at them all day, and if Trubisky and the offense can’t give them ample rest, it’s going to be a long day for this Bears team.

Bears vs Eagles: Trends, Pick & Prediction
SPREAD: Bears +4

OVER/UNDER: 41.5

Odds Shark has the Eagles winning by a projected score of 28-15, which has Philly covering the spread, and the point total going over. The Bears are fighting for their season here, so we think this game is going to be closer than that.

Some trends to note regarding the game:

• The Bears are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games.

• The total has gone UNDER in 9 of Chicago’s last 12 games.

• The Bears are 12-6 SU in their last 18 games.

• Chicago is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against Philadelphia.

• The total has gone OVER in 4 of Philadelphia’s last 6 games.

• Philadelphia is 5-1 SU in their last 6 games at home.

• The Eagles are 4-2 SU in their last 6 games when playing at home against Chicago.

• Philadelphia is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games against an opponent in the NFC conference.

We’re with Odds Shark on all but one detail: Bears will cover the spread. Eagles should win in a close, low-scoring game at home.

Prediction: Eagles 20 Bears 17

Jets vs. Dolphins odds: 2019 NFL picks, Week 9 predictions from proven computer model

An AFC East battle is on tap between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami is 0-7 overall and 0-4 at home, while the Jets are 1-6 overall and 0-3 on the road. New York is 2-5 against the spread this season and is averaging just 209.6 yards per game on offense, which ranks dead last in the league. Miami, meanwhile, is 3-4 against the spread, but is giving up an average of 34.0 points per game, the worst mark in the NFL. New York is favored by three-points in the latest Dolphins vs. Jets odds, while the Over-Under is set at 42.5. Before entering any Jets vs. Dolphins picks, you'll want to see the NFL predictions from SportsLine's advanced computer model.

The model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is up almost $7,000 for $100 players on its top-rated NFL picks since its inception four years ago. It has nailed its recent top-rated NFL picks, entering Week 9 of the 2019 NFL schedule on a strong 25-17 run that dates back to last season. It's also on an incredible 87-60 roll on top-rated NFL picks that dates back to the 2017 season, The model also ranked in the Top 10 on NFLPickWatch for the third year in a row on straight-up NFL picks and beat more than 96 percent of CBS Sports office pool players. Anyone who has followed it is way up.

Now, it has simulated Dolphins vs. Jets 10,000 times and the results are in. We can tell you that the model is leaning Under, and it's also generated a point-spread pick that is hitting in well over 50 percent of simulations. You can only see the pick at SportsLine.

The model has taken into account that New York suffered a grim 29-15 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. Quarterback Sam Darnold struggled against the Jaguars, completing 21-of-30 passes for 218 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Darnold has now thrown seven interceptions in his last two games. Running back Le'Veon Bell was equally ineffective, gaining just 23 yards on eight carries. However, New York has had success against its AFC East foe over the years. In fact, the Jets are 14-5-1 against the spread in their last 20 games on the road against Miami.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, jumped out to an early 14-0 lead over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night but were unable to secure their first win of the season, eventually falling 27-14. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 21-of-34 passes for 190 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions against the Steelers. For the season, Fitzpatrick has completed 59.7 percent of his passes for 907 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions. Despite this season's struggles, the Dolphins will enter Sunday's contest against the Jets full of confidence, having beaten New York in each of their last three meetings.

A pair of offensive stats to keep in mind before Sunday's kickoff: The Dolphins are worst in the league in overall touchdowns, with only nine on the season. The Jets have experienced some offensive struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the matchup with the fewest passing touchdowns in the NFL, having accrued only five on the season.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Kansas City Chiefs Prediction and Preview

NFL fans have had this Minnesota Vikings vs. Kansas City Chiefs matchup circled on their calendars for months with two of the most talented offenses in the league facing off in a rare interconference matchup. But most of that excitement has gone by the wayside with reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes' dislocated knee throwing his availability into question.

After suffering the injury on an Oct. 17 quarterback sneak, the Chiefs had to turn to veteran Matt Moore, who has been decent enough but unable to spark the offense that led the league in scoring and total offense last season. Despite going 24-of-36 for 267 yards with no turnovers last week, the Chiefs fell to the Packers 31-24.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has remained mum about Mahomes' injury. The 24-year-old was limited in Thursday's practice, so he's making progress, but it may not be enough for him to get the go-ahead to play this weekend. Considering his initial timetable of three-to-five weeks, even if Mahomes played on Sunday, we would probably see a similar, if not worse, version of Mahomes when he was clearly hampered by an earlier ankle injury.

The good news for Kansas City is that even if Mahomes can't go and they drop another game, they still have a comfortable lead in the AFC West. The Chiefs enter Week 9 one and a half games up on the Raiders and the only team in the division with a positive point differential (+45, third in the AFC). The ship may have sailed on a first-round playoff bye, but just winning the division at this point is a win.

Even if Mahomes does return in time for Sunday's game, Minnesota (6-2) will provide a difficult opponent. They are third in total offense (396.5 ypg), and running back Dalvin Cook looks every bit as dominant as fans hoped he would now that he's healthy. Offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski had been slow to use Kirk Cousins to begin the year, but the quarterback seems to have found his groove with Stefon Diggs.

Three Things to Watch

1. What will the Chiefs get from their quarterback?

This is the big question hanging over Sunday's game. Given that Patrick Mahomes is back at practice in a limited role, it's entirely possible that the Chiefs may not announce whether or not he'll start until hours before kickoff. It could be gamesmanship or a genuine uncertainty for his injury, but the Chiefs had better be cautious and make sure he doesn't aggravate the injury or suffer a new one, like when he played on his sprained ankle.

Mahomes' mobility could be hampered, which hurt his effectiveness in the three games before the knee injury. During that stretch, he only completed 56.0 percent of his passes and took five sacks. Although he only threw one interception, his 7.8 yards per attempt was nearly three yards less than his average through Week 3.

Were Matt Moore to start, he represents the very definition of a game manager. His 66.7 percent completion rate did look pretty, but that was boosted by 10-of-11 passing at or behind the line of scrimmage. He was just 5-of-12 when passing eight yards or deeper downfield. Moore will have plenty of weapons between Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Sammy Watkins, and Mecole Hardman, but his primary goal will be to not turn the ball over.

2. Has Kirk Cousins finally arrived?

No team has attempted fewer passes per game this season than the Vikings (26.9), but Cousins has been making his case lately to lean more heavily on his arm. Over the last four games, he's lived up to his $84 million contract with 91-of-116 passing for 1,261 yards, 10 touchdowns, and just one interception. His 9.3 yards per attempt lead the NFL, and that's up to 10.9 in his last four games.

Wideout Adam Thielen is questionable after battling a hamstring injury that forced him out last week, but Stefon Diggs has returned to form as one of the league's best receivers in his absence. He has surpassed 140 receiving yards in each of the last three games and ranks fourth in the league in the category despite totaling just 101 through Week 3. The question becomes if the Chiefs defense can step up to stop Cousins' and Diggs' hot play.

3. Can the Chiefs' defense step up?

Kansas City's defense has been middling all season, ranking 17th in total defense and 25th in scoring defense. But they've been a bend-don't-break unit because of their penchant for big plays. The Chiefs rank 11th in the league with 12.9 percent of opponents' drives ending in turnovers. Meanwhile, their 25 sacks rank fifth in the league; KC's talented unit includes four players with at least three sacks.

Missing Mahomes last week hurt, but the defense also didn't step up against the Packers. They only sacked Aaron Rodgers twice and could not force a single turnover. With little pressure, Rodgers was able to go 23-of-33 for 305 yards and three scores. This Chiefs defense will need a much stronger showing against the Vikings.

Final Analysis

The quarterback situation means this game could go any direction; some sportsbooks have yet to release a line, while others have seen theirs bounce all over the place. However, with a raucous home crowd behind them, the Chiefs will be dangerous no matter who is under center. This one could be a high-scoring affair with the team that makes the fewest mistakes likely coming out on top.

Prediction: Chiefs 27, Vikings 24

Panthers vs Titans defensive preview: The Panthers defense needs to bounce back in a big way

The Carolina Panthers defense put on a terrible no good very bad performance against the San Francisco 49ers last weekend. They were fooled by every bit of misdirection and deception the 49ers threw (and ran) at them while allowing Jimmy G an company to score touchdowns on more than half their drives. Tevin Coleman did his thing once gain, gashing the Panthers for 105 yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries.

This weekend’s opponent wants to do something similar. The Tennessee Titans always try to be one of the most run heavy teams in the league. This season, they’ve run 40 plays while in a tie game. 65% of those plays have been runs, fourth most in the league. Derrick Henry is the battering ram of choice. The behemoth back is fourth in the league with 151 carries, though he’s averaging just 3.8 yards per tote.

The Titans are undefeated with Ryan Tannehill starting at a quarterback, a feat that has spanned two games. He’s played well in those games, completing 71% of his passes with a 5-to-1 touchdown to interception ratio, but the overall offensive output hasn’t been any better. It’s a perfect opportunity for a get right game. Here’s how that happens:

Limit the home run running play. The Panthers have struggled at this all season. They’ve been able to cover it up with timely stuffs and plays in the passing game. As inefficient as Derrick Henry is, he is capable of breaking the big one if presented a big enough hole. He’s one of a very select few of players to score a 99 yard touchdown run.

Make Ryan Tannehill uncomfortable. Tannehill has been very good since taking over for the ineffective Marcus Mariota, but he’s far from perfect. His average time to throw is 2.88 seconds, fifth highest in the league. We’ve seen this defense fluster other quarterbacks that tend to hold onto the ball like Deshaun Watson and Gardner Minshew. They’ll have a good opportunity to repeat that this week.
When Tannehill does throw, he’s been extremely accurate and has pushed the ball down the field. It’s vital that the Panthers front generates pressure.

Make sound defensive stops without the need for turnovers. The strength of the Panthers defense this season has been in getting sacks and forcing turnovers. As mentioned above, they can get sacks this week. They’re not as likely to benefit from turnovers. The Titans have turned the ball over on just 5.2% of their drives, the second best mark in the league. The Panthers will need to capitalize on the Titans general lack of efficiency instead of expecting interceptions and fumbles. Or maybe the Titans are due, who knows.

The Panthers are facing an ideal opponent to get their defensive groove back after their worst defensive performance since last year’s Steelers debacle. That performance started a downward spiral that knocked the team out of playoff contention. The Panthers can’t let happen again. They need to quickly regain their footing, and a strong performance against a weak Titans offense is a great place to start.

Redskins vs. Bills odds: 2019 NFL picks, Week 9 predictions from advanced computer model

The Buffalo Bills will take on the Washington Redskins at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday at New Era Field. Buffalo is 5-2 overall and 2-2 at home, while Washington is 1-7 overall and 1-3 on the road. Buffalo is 4-3 against the spread this season and is averaging 130.4 rushing yards per game, which ranks eighth in the NFL. Washington, meanwhile, is 3-5 against the spread this season, but has given up an average of just 14.6 points per game in its last three contests. Buffalo is favored by 9.5-points in the latest Bills vs. Redskins odds, while the Over-Under is set at 37. Before entering any Redskins vs. Bills picks, you'll want to see the NFL predictions from the advanced computer model at SportsLine.

Now, it has simulated Bills vs. Redskins 10,000 times and the results are in. We can tell you that the model is leaning Under, and it also says one side of the spread has all the value. You can only see the pick at SportsLine.

The model has taken into account that the Bills lost their second game of the season last week, falling 31-13 to the Philadelphia Eagles. Quarterback Josh Allen completed 16-of-34 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns, while also leading the team in rushing with eight carries for 45 yards. The Bills' rushing attack was ineffective throughout the day against Philadelphia, as Frank Gore and Devin Singletary combined for just 53 yards on the ground. However, Buffalo will enter Sunday's contest full of confidence, having beaten Washington in four its last five games at home.

Washington, meanwhile, has to be hurting after a lopsided 19-9 loss at the hands of the Minnesota Vikings. One thing holding the Redskins back was the mediocre play of quarterback Case Keenum, who has failed to record a touchdown pass in each of his past two games. For the season, Keenum has thrown for 1,343 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions.

Two statistics to keep in mind before Sunday's kickoff: The Bills' defense ranks third in the league when it comes to passing yards allowed per game, giving up 194.4 yards on average. Less enviably, the Redskins' offense is second worst in the league in passing yards per game, averaging just 176.4 yards per game through the air.

Texans vs. Jaguars odds, line, predictions: 2019 NFL London picks from proven model on 87-60 roll

The Jacksonville Jaguars are making themselves feel at home in England. They're hoping that trend continues when they host the Houston Texans in an AFC South showdown at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. The Jaguars (4-4), who are just 1.5 games behind the Colts in the AFC South standings, are marking their seventh consecutive year playing in England, the most in the NFL, while the Texans (5-3) are playing their first game at Wembley and making their second NFL international game appearance. The Texans lost to the Oakland Raiders in 2016 at Mexico City. Sunday's 2019 NFL London game is slated for 9:30 a.m. ET. The Jaguars have won three of their last four games in England by a combined score of 126-89, including a 44-7 win over the Ravens in 2017. The Texans are favored by 1.5 in the latest Texans vs. Jaguars odds, while the over-under for total points scored is 46.5. Before making any Jaguars vs. Texans picks and 2019 NFL London predictions, you need to hear what the SportsLine Projection Model has to say.

Now, the model has simulated Texans vs. Jaguars 10,000 times. We can tell you it is leaning under, and it has also generated an against the spread pick that cashes in well over 50 percent of simulations. That one is only available at SportsLine.

The model knows Houston has had plenty of success recently and is looking for its second straight winning season and seventh out of its last nine. The Texans have played well in November in the past, going 4-1 against the spread in their last five November games. Houston also has played well on the road, going 7-5 away from home since the start of the 2018 season, including 2-2 this year.

Offensively, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has been the perfect complement for quarterback Deshaun Watson, with 60 receptions for 617 yards and three touchdowns. Hopkins has been busy the past three weeks. Against Oakland, he caught 11 passes for 109 yards, topping his nine-catch, 106-yard, one-TD performance the week before at Indianapolis. On Oct. 13 at Kansas City, Hopkins converted seven first downs.

But just because Houston has plenty of weapons does not guarantee it will cover the Jaguars vs. Texans spread in London on Sunday.

That's because Jacksonville has won two straight games and four of its last six. The Jaguars, who are looking for their first winning season in two years, are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games against AFC teams like the Texans.

The Jaguars have been led by quarterback Gardner Minshew, who has completed 161-of-260 passes for 1,976 yards and 13 touchdowns. Minshew has played well the past two weeks, going for three touchdowns against the New York Jets and throwing for 255 yards and a touchdown at Cincinnati the week before.
